Understanding THC & CBD: What’s The Difference?

THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is one of the world’s most well known cannabinoids found in the marijuana plant. THC also is what is responsible for producing the psychotropic effects and euphoric experiences that people have when ingesting or smoking marijuana - a “high.”
CBD, is opposite. The CBD (Cannabidoil) cannabinoid does not provide the same psychotropic activity found in THC and therefore does not give the same effects such as the “high.”  Research has suggested that CBD may adversely counteract the effects of THC not to mention also offering other potential benefits and value to users.

Hemp Vs Marijuana: The Factors
 
The Genetic Makeup

Hemp, comes from Cannabis Sativa L. it grows much differently, much like a tall bamboo stalk and is commonly produced and processed for industrial textile uses and medical values according to cultivars.  It is believed that the separation in the genetic pool is what led to hemp vs marijuana. Right now the two foundational types of Cannabis plants are Cannabis Sativa and Cannabis Indicia.
 
The THC Content
 
When hemp plant is grown it only produces naturally occurring very low trace amounts of THC - typically under 0.3%.  In contrast, medical marijuana has a THC content range of approximately 5% to 30%. Most of the medical marijuana plants being grown for today’s market in dispensary settings are becoming world renowned for their genetic abilities to produce even higher amounts of THC.

Hemp contains a symphony of over 400 compounds like cannabidiol (CBD), secondary phyto-cannabinoids, terpenoids, terpenes, and flavonoids. It has an internal "checks and balances" system in place. These compounds work synergistically to heighten the positive, therapeutic effects of cannabidiol and naturally buffer other less desired compounds that come along with the plant.


Hemp has quite an entourage of phyto-cannabinoids, which are unique chemical compounds. The Endocannabinoid System (ECS) is a collection of cell receptors within a mammal's body. Scientists discovered this system in the 1990s.
